When Christmas comes around people flock to big UK cities like London, Edinburgh, Manchester and York to get in the festive spirit. However, one place that often goes amiss is Crawley, with many people under the perception there isn’t much to do in the town. In this blog, our hotel aims to change your perception of Crawley as a Christmas staycation destination by exploring what’s on in and around the town…
You’ll be sure to get in the festive spirit at Tulleys Farm, who are holding a magical Christmas experience suitable for all the family. Set within beautiful woodland grounds the experience is full of festive events for children and parents to enjoy, venture through the Elves’ Magical Forest, climb aboard Santa’s Tractor Sleigh Ride and meet Santa in his log cabin, as well as much more. Running from 24th November until Christmas Eve.
Following a highly successful fair in 2017, Effingham Christmas Fair returns this year for a day full of festivities! With over 80 stalls selling handmade gifts, decorations, hot food and drink, as well as Santa’s Grotto and lots of other Christmas events for all ages. The fair will be held on Sunday 11th November between 11 am and 4 pm.
No Christmas staycation is complete without a go at ice skating (no matter how bad you are), just a short drive away from Crawley is Brighton’s Royal Pavilion Ice Rink, arguably the most beautiful rink in the South East. Like every year, the rink will be lit with purple twinkling lights and will run from 3rd November 2018 ‘til 13th January 2019. If you’d prefer to sit out or just want to escape the cold for a while, the Rinkside Bar & Kitchen is the perfect place to warm up, serving hot snacks, dinners, mulled wine and hot chocolates.
Enjoy a magical after-dark winter lantern trail at Glow Wild, held at the beautiful botanic gardens of Wakehurst, just a short drive from our Crawley hotel. Against the backdrop of the stunning 16th century Wakehurst mansion, the gardens are brought to life with glowing handcrafted lanterns which emphasise the beauty of the trees, plants, flowers and nature. Visitors are also invited to toast marshmallows and chestnuts over an open fire, whilst sipping on a delicious hot choccy. Glow Wild runs from 22nd November until 16th December.

Absolutely fantastic hotel... Booked it as a package, a very economical package with Purple Parking via Holiday Extras on our way to California via Gatwick Airport. One of the cleanest, hassle free hotels I have ever stayed in and I completely, 100% will recommend them to anyone travelling via Gatwick and will certainly use this hotel again myself. Breakfast was awesome, just what we needed to set us up for our 10 hour flight.
Very comfortable stay. Breakfast very good and staff very attentive. Easy to find and great value for money. Very welcoming and nice quiet hotel. Staff great could not fault anything. Nice and handy for Gatwick.
We stayed here before our flight to Crete and got a Hotel & Parking package. It was easy to find, the staff were very efficient & friendly and we had a ground floor room, which was lovely & clean. Overall a nice relaxing stay before our trip, we would definitely stay again.
This hotel was lovely and had a lovely vibe as lots of the holiday customers were excited . The hotel staff were very chatty and friendly. We arrived at the hotel too late for food but were told we could get sandwiches made up. However, we were shattered so we didn't bother taking up this generous offer. Our room was lovely and had complementary free WiFi so the kids were happy. We left our car at the hotel for a week which was secure and looked after. When we returned at 2am the following week, the staff were just as lovely and helpful. We were very happy with the service and we look forward to doing it all again next year.
Just stayed in the Holiday Inn Express at Crawley before flying out of Gatwick Airport. We booked our stay via APH car parks. We had a really good stay and the hotel had nice, clean and modern rooms with a good comfy bed. We had the added bonus of a breakfast included & check in was nice and simple with overnight parking. Well worth it to be nice and fresh for the airport.
Stayed at Holiday Inn Express Crawley for 3 nights during an in-between London/Brighton break. The breakfast was good and had a variety of foods on offer. The hotel was very clean as were the bathroom/bedrooms!
The hotel, the breakfast, the rooms, staff are great! Hotel is located near the centre of Crawley and offers various services! We were here with a large group and the service were great! Breakfast was fine and offered several things!
We stayed at Holiday Inn Express Crawley and paid for the Stay & Park package as we had an early flight the next day. I have stayed here on business before, however I forgot how good it was. Quick check in and everything was clean. We had dinner at the bar and the food was excellent, I could not fault a thing. Worth every penny!
We originally booked for one night but decided to extend our stay for another night. The staff were extremely helpful and only charged us the same rate for the second night as the first. The Hotel reception and lounge (where breakfast is) is lovely and modern. The rooms are clean and well designed and we couldn't hear any noise from the airport or roads. Breakfast was good and it wasn't too busy. Overall a nice hotel that's good value for money.
We picked this hotel again to park the car during our holiday and stay overnight when we got back as our flight did not arrive until early morning. 1st class service, excellent value and very helpful staff. Would highly recommend this hotel.
